How to Draw a Baby Giraffe

In today’s basic drawing lesson, we will learn how to draw a baby giraffe on paper. The shape and proportion of each part will be observed in each step of the tutorial. Take notice that the blue lines are used to indicate the current parts being drawn in each step.

Time Needed: 30 minutes

1. Draw The Face

   

   Form two shaded circles to create the eyes. Then, draw an oval for the snout. Next, draw two shaded ovals and a line curving upward to form the mouth.

2. Form The Head

   

   Draw a line curving downward to create the head. Next, add a curved line around the eyes to form the giraffe’s pattern.

3. Attach The Ears And Ossicones

   

   Draw two pointed shapes on both sides of the head to form the ears. Next, draw two narrow shapes with bumps on the end to create the ossicones.

4. Outline The Body

   

   Attach an elongated shape to form the body. Then, draw a line curving downwards for the underbelly.

5. Draw The Forelegs

   

   Draw two vertical shapes attached to the upper body to form the forelegs of the giraffe. Don’t forget to add a horizontal line on each foreleg to form hooves.

6. Add The Hind Legs

   

   Attach two diagonal shapes at the bottom of the body to outline the hind legs. Add an oval on the end of each hind leg. Then draw curved lines to finish the hooves.

7. Form The Tail

   

   Draw a curved narrow shape with a pointy shape at the tip to form the tail.

8. Create The Patterns

   

   Create the spots on the giraffe by drawing rounded shapes around its body as shown.

9. Complete The Baby Giraffe Drawing

   

   Let’s liven up our giraffe drawing by adding color! Use an orange crayon to color the snout and ossicone. Use a pink crayon to fill in the inner ears. Next, use a brown crayon to color the giraffe’s spots, hooves, and the tip of its tail. Then, use a very light shade of yellow to fill in the underbelly. Finally, use a yellow crayon to shade the rest of the baby giraffe.
