In this lesson, we will discover how to draw a giraffe eating leaves with basic drawing tools. Be sure to observe the various sizes and shapes of each part of the giraffe. The new lines in each step is made of blue so you can see the current shapes that you should be creating.

Outline The Head
Outline the head of the giraffe similar to the illustration shown.

Draw The Face
Draw two shaded circles to form the eyes of the giraffe. Then, draw a curved line in the head to create the snout. Next, draw two shaded dots for the nostrils. Create a line curving upwards with a semi-circle attached to the end to form the mouth of the giraffe.

Form The Ears
Outline the pointed shape of the giraffe’s ears on both sides of its head. Add a wavy line to form the flap of the ears as shown.

Add The Branch
Add the branch that the giraffe is chewing on by adding two narrow shapes on the ends of the mouth. Then attach oval shapes to add leaves.

Form The Body
Attach an elongated shape below the head to outline the body of the giraffe.

Attach The Tail
Draw a narrow shape with a pointy end to create a tail for the giraffe.

Draw The Legs
Outline the long, slender legs of the giraffe with thin long shapes similar to the illustration. Don’t forget to add hooves.

Form The Pattern
Form the pattern of the giraffe by drawing spots on its body. Add a curvy line to highlight the pattern on the face and the underbelly.

Complete The Drawing Of A Giraffe Eating Leaves
To color in our giraffe eating leaves, first let’s shade the inner ears and snout with an orange crayon. Next, use a brown crayon to color the spots, hooves, tip of its tail and the pattern on its face. Use a light shade of yellow to fill in the underbelly. Then, use yellow to shade in the rest of the body. Don’t forget to color the branch’s leaves green, and the twig with a dark green crayon.
