How to Draw a Giraffe

We will complete a drawing of a giraffe by drawing one section at a time. It will take 6 steps to complete as we continue to create each part moving closer to the completed drawing. The final artwork will be completed with color creating a artwork you will be proud of!

Time Needed: 20 minutes

1. Draw The Face

   

   First, draw the eyes by creating two shaded ovals. Next, form the giraffe’s snout by creating a big oval. Add two dots and a line curving upwards to draw its nose and mouth.

2. Form The Head

   

   Now, outline the shape of the giraffe’s head as shown. Don’t forget to emphasize the two protruding shapes on top of its head called ossicones. Next, to draw the ears, attach pointed shapes on each side of its head. Then, draw a diagonal shape on each ear.

3. Draw The Body And Tail

   

   First, form the elongated outline of its body. Make sure to draw its long slender neck as shown. To draw its tail, attach two lines with a pointed shape at the end of its body.

4. Add The Legs

   

   Create thin long shapes attached to the bottom of the giraffe’s body to draw its legs. Then, form the hooves by drawing curved lines near the end of each leg.

5. Create The Patterns

   

   Now, let’s create the pattern on the giraffe’s head and body by drawing rounded shapes as shown. Also create a horizontal line between the foreleg and the hind leg to outline its underbelly.

6. Complete The Giraffe Drawing

   

   Let’s complete the giraffe drawing by first coloring its hooves and the patterns around its body with a brown crayon. Next, use a pink crayon to shade the inner parts of its ears and its snout. Now, color its underbelly with a cream colored crayon. Then, fill in the rest of its body with a yellow crayon.
