Materials

In this lesson, we will discover how to draw a kite with your drawing materials. We will consider the various sizes and shapes contained in the example drawing of the kite. The lines in each step is drawn in blue so you can easily see the current lines that you should be working on.

First Draw The Position Of The Kite Frames
Let’s first draw the position of the kite frames! Start by creating a long straight line for the spine. Next, make a shorter line perpendicular to the drawn line earlier.

Draw The Kite Cover
Draw the kite cover by creating a diamond shape touching the endpoints of the frame.

Attach The Bridle
Attach the bridle by first drawing a line from the three ends of the kite and connecting them to one point. Next, from that intersection point, draw a very long line as shown.

Add The Tip Of The Wooden Frames
Add the tip of the wooden frames of the kite by making small thin rectangular shapes.

Attach The Kite Streamers
Attach the kite streamers by drawing pairs of wavy rectangles.

Add The Tail
Add the kite’s tail by drawing the thin curved shape in the illustration.

Start Decorating The Tail
Let’s start decorating the tail by drawing ribbons! First, draw the center of the ribbons by creating circles along the tail.

Form The Sides Of The Ribbon
Now, form the sides of the ribbon by making a triangular shape on both sides of the drawn circle as shown.

Complete The Kite Drawing
Complete the kite drawing by first coloring the kite cover with different shades of pink. Next, fill in the kite streamers with purple and teal crayons. Now, shade the ribbons with yellow, orange, and red crayons. Then, fill in the tail with a blue crayon. Don’t forget to color the wooden frames with an orange crayon.
