How to Draw a Pirate Map

In this post, we will discover how to draw a pirate map with your drawing materials. We will consider the various sizes and shapes contained in the example drawing of the pirate map. The new lines in each step is drawn out in blue so you can see the current lines that you will be creating.

Outline The Map
Outline the pirate map by making a rectangular shape with jagged edges.

Draw The Water And Landforms
First, draw blob shapes to create the landforms. Then, draw two bumpy horizontal lines to draw the water.

Form The Hull
Form the hull of the pirate ship by drawing the shape as shown. Add details to the ship’s hull by making horizontal lines.

Attach The Mast And Sail
Attach the mast of the pirate ship by drawing a long thin vertical rectangle. Next, draw the sail by creating a rectangular shape as shown. Now, form the jolly roger on the sail by outlining the skull with rounded shapes.

Mark The Treasure
Let’s mark the treasure on the map! First, draw an X-shape. Next, form the treasure chest as shown. Then, draw dashed lines to create the path.

Outline The Map Compass
Outline the map compass by drawing a vertical and horizontal line. Make sure to draw a small X-shaped line as shown too!

Form The Shape Of The Compass
Using the outline as a guide, form the shape of the compass with straight lines.

Write The Directions
Let’s write the directions on the map compass. Write “N” for north, “W” for West, “S” for South and “E” for East.

Complete The Pirate Map Drawing
Let’s complete the pirate map drawing! First, color the edges of the map with a brown crayon then gradually transition to blue. Next, color the landforms with green crayons. Now, color the hull of the pirate ship and the treasure chest with a brown crayon. Use an orange crayon to fill in the compass, the details on the treasure chest and the mast of the pirate ship. Finally, color the sail with a purple crayon and the skull with a white crayon.
