In today’s step by step lesson, we are going to learn how to draw a rat on paper. The location and proportion of each part will be pointed out in each step of the tutorial. Take notice that the blue pencil lines are used to indicate the new shapes being drawn in each step.

Outline The Head
Outlinethe head of the rat by making the curved shape as shown.

Draw The Face
Let’s draw two shaded ovals to create the rat’s eyes. Next, draw a rounded shape for the nose. Add two, long horizontal lines on both sides of the nose to form the rat’s whiskers.

Attach The Ears
Attach the ears by drawing the curved lines on top of the rat’s head. Draw a rounded curved shape to add the inner part of the ear.

Outline The Body
Outline the body of the rat by first drawing a curved line attached to the rat’s ear. Next, draw another curved line from the bottom of the rat’s head as shown in the illustration.

Form The Forelimbs
Form the forelimbs by drawing two curved lines with small bumps to the bottom.

Draw The Claws
Outline the claws attached to the rat’s limbs by making curved lines as shown. Then, draw two small lines on each claw. Make sure to draw the claws on the rat’s hind limbs longer!

Outline The Fur On Its Underbelly
Outline the rat’s fur on its underbelly by making two curved lines as shown.

Add The Tail
First, outline the thin wavy shape of the rat’s tail. Next, draw small lines on the surface of the tail as shown.

Complete The Rat Drawing
Complete the rat drawing by coloring the nose, claws, tail, and inner part of the ear with a pink crayon. Next, shade the fur on the rat’s underbelly with a light orange crayon. Finally, color the rest of the rat’s fur with a purple crayon,
