How to Draw a Stegosaurus
The Stegosaurus is one of those iconic dinosaurs I used to draw when I was a kid.
Now any kid can learn how to draw a stegosaurus by following the demonstration images in this fairly simple lesson.
With only nine easy steps to follow, kids will enjoy designing their own stegosaurus on paper. Also included is a downloadable version of this dinosaur drawing tutorial.

Materials
- Pencil
- Drawing Paper
- Crayons or Colored Pencils
- Black Marker (optional)

By the end of this lesson we will complete a drawing of a stegosaurus by crafting one area at a time. The drawing will take 9 steps in total as we continue to draw each section which will get us closer to the finished drawing. The final drawing will be beautified with color resulting in a drawing you will be proud of!
Time Needed: 30 minutes

Outline The Head
First, draw a curved line to outline the stegosaurus’ head.

Draw The Face
Now, create a small circle for its eyes. Next, form its beak by drawing a curved line. Add a dot for its nostril. Then, draw a small line curving upwards for its mouth.

Outline The Body
Next, outline the oval shape of the stegosaurus’ body. Form the pointed tail connected at the end of its body as shown.

Attach Its Legs
Now, form the shape of the stegosaurus’ legs attached to the bottom of its body. Add curved lines to the bottom of each toe as shown.

Outline The Underbelly
Draw a line following the shape of the stegosaurus’ body to form its underbelly.

Add The Plates
Add the bony plates along the stegosaurus’ back by drawing pointed shapes as shown.

Form The Spikes
Form the sharp pointed spikes on the stegosaurus’ tail.

Draw The Pattern
Draw blob shaped patterns on the stegosaurus’ body.

Complete The Stegosaurus Drawing
Let’s give life to our drawing of a stegosaurus by adding some colors! First, shade the beak and underbelly using a light green crayon. Next, color the claws on its toes and the spikes on its tail using a cream colored crayon. Now, shade the plates along its back using an orange crayon. Then, use a brown crayon to color the pattern on the stegosaurus’ back. Finally, shade the rest of the stegosaurus’s body using a green crayon.
