How to Draw an Avalanche
In this lesson, you will learn how to create a drawing of an avalanche scene. The process is straightforward: you will start by outlining the mountains and then add details like the avalanche track and a mass of snow. This lesson should take about 30 minutes to complete, giving you plenty of time to focus on each part.
Remember, drawing takes practice, so don’t worry if your first try isn’t exactly what you imagined. You can always come back to this lesson whenever you want to improve your skills. With each attempt, you’ll get better at capturing the details of mountains, snow, and trees in your artwork.

- Pencil
- Drawing Paper
- Crayons | Colored Pencils | Markers (you choose)

To create your very own avalanche scene, just follow along with the instructions I’ll share. While I’ll be showing you some colors that I think work well, feel free to choose your own favorites! This is your artwork, and you can make it look however you like. Think about what colors remind you of winter and how you want to express the snowy landscape. Are you excited to start? Draw the Mountains
First, draw two tall, pointy mountains next to each other.

Outline the Mountain Tops
Next, outline the snowy tops of the mountains.

Form the Avalanche Track
Draw the path of the avalanche rushing downhill between the two mountains.

Add the Cloud
Draw a large cloud of snow at the base of the mountain where the avalanche settles.

Draw the Debris
Add jagged pieces of snow and rocks around the avalanche path.

Outline the Snowy Base
Draw a snowy base along the bottom of the mountains.

Add the Trees
Draw uprooted trees along the avalanche path as shown.

Outline the Snowy Texture
Create short, bumpy lines to add a snowy texture along the avalanche path.

Color the Avalanche Drawing
First, color the sky light blue. Next, shade the mountains dark gray and use off-white for the snowy mountain tops. Now, color the avalanche path and snow white, and add hints of light gray for some shading. Then, color the cloud off-white and the rocks gray. Finally, color the trees green and brown.
