How To Draw An Axolotl: All Steps

This step by step lesson will instruct you how to draw an axolotl. We will draw attention to the shapes of each part and types of outlines created so that the drawing looks great.

Time Needed: 20 minutes

  1. Form The Head

    First, draw the curved outline of the axolotl’s head. Next, add two circles for the eyes. Then, draw a curved line for its mouth.

  2. Attach The Gills

    Draw the gills by forming three thin pointed shapes attached on each side of its head.

  3. Draw The Fimbriae

    Next, add the feathery part of the axolotl’s gills called the fimbriae by drawing zigzag shapes around the gills.

  4. Outline The Body

    Outline the thin long shape of its body and form the pointed tip of its tail at the end.

  5. Attach The Legs

    Attach the legs by drawing curved lines on the bottom of its body.

    Add some bubbles by drawing circles of varying sizes.

  9. Complete The Axolotl Drawing

    Let’s add some color to our cute axolotl drawing! First, fill the eyes with a black crayon. Next, color the gills and dorsal crest with a light purple crayon. Now, shade the fimbriae around the gills with a red crayon. Then, shade the rest of the axolotl’s body with a pink crayon. Finally, use a blue crayon to color the bubbles.
