How to Draw Santa in His Sleigh

We will complete a drawing of Santa in his sleigh by creating one section at a time. This project will take 9 steps in total as we continue to make each section moving closer to the completed artwork. The final artwork will be finished off with color resulting in a drawing you will want to share with friends!

Time Needed: 30 minutes

1. Outline The Body Of The Sleigh

   

   Start by drawing a curvy elongated shape to form the bottom of Santa’s sleigh. Then, add the railings on top following the shape of his sleigh as shown.

2. Draw The Front Part Of The Sleigh

   

   First, draw a curved line connected to the bottom part of the sleigh. Next, form a diagonal shape to add railings on the front side similar to the illustration.

3. Form The Face

   

   To form Santa’s face, first draw two circles for the eyes. Next, draw two small ovals for the eyebrows. Then, add a small line curving downwards to form the nose. Attach two pointed elongated shapes to give Santa his jolly mustache.

4. Outline The Beard

   

   Draw a bumpy shape around Santa’s face to give him his fluffy, white beard.

5. Add The Hat

   

   First, outline the base of the hat by drawing an elongated shape on top of Santa’s forehead. Next, draw a rounded triangular shape to create the body of the hat. Don’t forget to add a pointy end with a circle attached, similar to the illustration.

6. Attach The Arms

   

   Form the curving shape of Santa’s arms. Draw cuffs on the arms to highlight Santa’s jacket. Finally, use a bumpy shape to add the mittens.

7. Draw The Body

   

   Draw a small circle to highlight the button of Santa’s jacket. Then, attach a small vertical line below the arm and a horizontal line just below the circle to outline his torso.

8. Outline The Stanchions And Runners

   

   First, attach three narrow, vertical shapes attached to the sleigh to create the stanchions. Next, form two horizontal shapes, curving at the front below the stanchions to draw the runners. Don’t forget to add a small line just below Santa’s arm to draw the back of the sleigh.

9. Complete The Drawing Of Santa In His Sleigh

   

   Let’s complete our illustration of Santa and his ride by adding some color. First, use a yellow crayon to fill in the button on his jacket and railings of his sleigh. Next, use a black crayon to shade the runners and stanchions, as well as Santa’s belt, mittens, and eyes. Use a cream color to fill in his beard and brows. Now, use a white crayon to color the base and tip of Santa’s hat and his cuffs. Finally, use a darker shade of red to fill in his sleigh and a lighter of red to color his jacket and hat.
