Materials
- Pencil
- Drawing Paper
- Crayons or Colored Pencils
- Black Marker (optional)
- Tarantula Drawing Printable PDF (see bottom of lesson)
The goal is to arrive at a finished drawing of a tarantula by drawing one section at a time. This project will take 6 steps to complete as we continue to create each section moving closer to the final work of art. The final drawing will be perfected with color making it a work of art you will be proud of!
Time Needed: 20 minutes

Outline The Body
Begin the tarantula’s body by drawing a circular shape in the middle of your paper.

Complete The Body
Then, add another circle below the first circle. This circle should slightly overlap the first circle and will give this spider more depth when drawn this way!

Add The Mouth And The Antennae
Draw the tarantula’s mouth attached to the first circle. Then draw the antennae on both sides of the mouth. Now we have this tarantula’s head drawn!

Draw The Upper Legs
Begin the legs by drawing the first four spider legs on the upper part of the body. Do not forget to add the hairy details. Tarantulas are well known for their hairy bodys!

Add The Lower Legs
In this next step add the remaining legs to the bottom half of the spider.

Complete Your Drawing
Now we can color our tarantula drawing with shades of brown. You can also add white as your highlights.

Tarantulas Are Not That Scary!
Tarantulas are large spiders that live in warm regions of the world. They are best known for being large spiders that are covered in hair.
When it comes to trapping its prey, the tarantula will often create a tripwire. This trip wire is made of silk and will alert the tarantula if anything trips it. The tarantula will then go to the trip wire and scare off the intruder.
A tarantula won’t use a web to trap its prey. Instead it will either chase after its prey or inject it with venom. When it injects it with venom.
There are some spiders that are dangerous to people. However, some poisonous spiders can’t even harm humans. That’s right, while large spiders like the Tarantula do have the ability to produce painful bite wounds on humans, their venom has little to no toxicity to humans. So, don’t be too afraid of these large, hairy spiders.
