In this lesson, we will learn how to make a birthday cake drawing on paper. To look the best, we will observe the different sizes and shapes of each part of the birthday cake. The lines in each step is drawn blue so you can see the most recent shapes that you should be drawing.

Form The Icing

Start by drawing a wavy line to create the icing of the birthday cake.

Draw The Base Of The Cake

Next, outline the cylindrical shape of the cake’s base. Add layers by drawing wavy horizontal lines on the cake’s sides. Then, draw a bumpy shape on the bottom of the cake for added detail.

Start Forming The Letters Of The Birthday Candles

Above the cake’s icing, outline the letters “HAPPY” to start forming the birthday candles.

Complete The Birthday Candles

Next, form the outline of the word “BIRTHDAY.” Make sure to erase any unnecessary overlapping lines.

Add The Wick And Flame

Draw short vertical lines on top of each candle to create the wicks. Then, add flames on top of the wicks by drawing pointy shapes.

Outline The Stand Of The Candles

Below each candle, draw slightly longer vertical lines to form the stands that hold the candles.

Form The Cake Plate

Create an oval shape underneath the cake to draw the cake plate.

Attach Cake Toppers

Draw a spiral shape and a star shape on top of the cake to add some decorative toppers.

Complete The Birthday Cake Drawing

It’s time to bring color to your birthday cake drawing! First, use a white crayon to color the birthday candles, and a yellow crayon to shade the flames. Next, color the birthday toppers with blue and orange crayons. Now, fill in the icing with a pink crayon. Use brown and yellow to color the rest of the cake. Then, use a darker shade of blue to color the cake plate.
