Buffalo Drawing
Learn to make a buffalo drawing! (Technically you’ll be learning to draw an American Bison but many people refer to this amazing animal as a buffalo…so let’s roll with that term for now)
Draw along with these basic 9 drawing steps. You will learn the basics for drawing a buffalo (bison).
This lesson only takes about 30 minutes and includes a pdf you can easily print or download. The pdf guide even contains a “coloring book” page with just the line art. This pairs well with crayons. This is perfect for very young children looking for some extra guidance and simply looking to color in a bison animal.
Materials
- Pencil
- Drawing Paper
- Crayons or Colored Pencils
- Black Marker (optional)

In this tutorial, we will start with a new piece of paper and learn how to create a buffalo drawing in a series of steps. We will pay attention to the shape and size of each part of the buffalo.
Time Needed: 30 minutes

Draw The Head
First, outline the shape of the head. Next, draw two shaded ovals for the eyes. Now, create the nose by making an oval shape with two small dots. Then, draw the mouth by forming a curved shape below the nose.

Attach The Ears
Attach the buffalo’s ears by forming curved shapes on both sides of the head.

Add The Horns
Add the buffalo’s horns on the top of its head. To draw the buffalo’s horn, form a triangular shape pointing upwards.

Draw The Mane On Top Of The Head
Draw the mane on top of the buffalo’s head by forming a bumpy shape.

Form The Body
First, form the furry mane on the buffalo’s neck and shoulders. Then, draw an oval shape to form the rest of the body.

Attach The Legs
Attach the buffalo’s legs below the body as shown.

Draw The Hooves
Outline the hooves with a line inside below the buffalo’s legs.

Attach The Tail
Attach the buffalo’s tail by first drawing two vertical lines. Next, draw a pointed oval shape at the tip.

Complete The Buffalo Drawing
Let’s complete the buffalo drawing by first coloring the horns with a white crayon. Next, use a black crayon to color the snout, mouth, hooves and inner ears. Now, fill in the fluffy mane and tail with a brown crayon. Finally, use an orange crayon to color the rest of the buffalo’s body.
