Cat Scratching Drawing: All Steps

In this tutorial, we will discover how to create a cat scratching drawing on paper. To ensure the artwork is successful, we will proportion out the various sizes and shapes of each part of the cat scratching. The new lines in each step is drawn blue so you can see the most recent shapes that you should be creating.

Time Needed: 30 minutes

  1. Start The Scratching Post

    To draw a cat scratching, we have to give it something to scratch. Use three rectangles to make the base shape of the scratching post. Draw the vertical lines lightly because we’ll be modifying them later on.

  2. Texture The Post

    Cat scratching posts are often covered in rope to give them a good texture that cats like to scratch. Use a variety of lines to add texture to the scratching post.

  3. Finish The Scratching Post

    Give the rope around the scratching post its shape by adding small bumps along the sides that line up with the lines you drew previously.

  4. Start The Cat

    Begin drawing the cat by drawing one of its back legs and stomach.

  5. Draw The Cat’s Leg And Tail

    Draw the other back leg and add the cat’s tail.

  6. Draw The Front Legs

    This cat is scratching the very top of the post, so draw the front legs reaching upwards with some sharp claws. Erase where the scratching post overlaps the front legs.

  7. Add The Cat’s Head And Back

  8. Finish The Face
