Cowboy Drawing: All Steps

This tutorial will instruct you how to draw a cowboy. We will draw attention to the shapes of each part and variety of lines drawn making sure that the artwork looks correct.

Time Needed: 30 minutes

  1. Draw The Head

    Cowboy Drawing: Step 1

    First, draw a U-shaped line to outline the cowboy’s head. Next, add the ears by drawing small C-shaped lines on both sides of the head. Now, draw two circles for the eyes and narrow ovals for the eyebrows. Add the nose and mouth by drawing small curved lines. Then, form the curved outline of the forehead.

  2. Add The Western Hat

    Start by drawing the base of the cowboy’s western hat. Next, outline the top part of the hat. Then, form the band of the hat by drawing a horizontal line.

  3. Draw A Bandana

    First, draw the pointed outline of the bandana below the cowboy’s head. Then, emphasize the folds of the bandana by drawing short curved lines.

  4. Form The Torso

    Now, form the shape of the vest and add a vertical line in the middle.

  5. Outline The Belt

    Draw an oval to form the belt buckle. Then, curving lines to outline the belt strap.

  6. Attach The Arms

    First, draw the sleeves connected to the vest. Next, attach the elongated arms. Now, add the rounded outline of the hands.

  7. Add The Legs

    Form the shape of the cowboy’s pants as shown.

  8. Form The Boots

    Outline the cowboy’s boots attached to the bottom of his pants.

    Let’s add a pop of color to our drawing of a cowboy! First, color the cowboy’s head and arms with a peach crayon. Shade his eyes with a black crayon and fill in his hair, eyebrows and vest with a light shade of orange. Next, use a white crayon for his shirt and a light blue crayon for his bandana. Use a darker shade of blue for his pants. Now, color his boots with a dark red crayon. Then, color the cowboy’s hat with a dark brown crayon and its band with a dark yellow crayon. Finally, shade the belt with an orange crayon and its strap with a dark brown crayon.
