Materials

- Drawing Paper
- Crayons or Colored Pencils
- Black Marker (optional)

In this step by step lesson, we will learn how to draw a deinonychus drawing on paper. To look the best, we will proportion out the various sizes and shapes of each part of the deinonychus. The lines in each step is drawn blue so you can identify the current shapes that you will be creating.
Time Needed: 20 minutes

Form The Head
First, outline the shape of the deinonychus’ head. Next, draw a small circle for its eye. Now, add its sharp teeth by drawing zigzag lines inside its mouth.

Outline The Body
Outline the oval shape of its body.

Attach The Tail
Draw the long pointed tail attached to the end of its body.

Add The Legs
Form the shape of the deinonychus’ long legs attached to the bottom of its body. Emphasize its sharp claws similar to the illustration.

Form The Arms
Now, form the shape of the dinosaur’s short arms. Then, draw its long claws at the tips of its hands as shown.

Complete The Deinonychus Drawing
Let’s start coloring our drawing of the deinonychus! First, fill the eye with a black crayon. Next, shade the teeth with a white crayon. Now, color the underbelly with a light orange crayon. Then, shade the rest of the deinonychus’ body with a brown crayon. Use a darker shade of brown to add some striped patterns along its back.
