In today’s step by step lesson, we will learn to draw a pond on paper. The location and proportion of each part will be observed in each step of the lesson. Take notice that the blue outlines are used to show the current lines being created in each step.
Time Needed: 30 minutes
Form The Rocks
Form the rocks around the pond by drawing oval shapes.
Draw grass near the edge of the pond by making pointy lines.
Let’s draw some cattails growing around the pond! First, form the flower head by drawing an elongated shape. Then, draw the stalk by making two lines attached to the bottom of the flower head.
Create A Duck’s Bill
Let’s add a duck swimming in the pond by first drawing its bill as shown in the illustration.
Outline The Duck’s Body
Outline the duck’s body by forming the shape as shown.
Add The Eye And Nose Hole
Let’s add the duck’s eye by drawing a shaded circle. Then, make a smaller circle on the bill to draw the duck’s nose hole.
Attach The Wing
Attach the duck’s wing by drawing an oval shape with a slightly pointed tip as shown.
Draw the waves in the water by making wavy lines near the edge of the pond. Don’t forget to add some ripples around the duck as well.
Complete The Pond Drawing
Let’s complete the pond drawing by first coloring the grass with a green crayon. Next, color the rocks with a gray crayon. Now, shade the flower head of the cattails with an orange crayon and the stalk with a brown crayon. Then, color the duck with a yellow crayon. Use an orange crayon to shade the duck’s bill. Finally, use a blue crayon to fill in the water.
