Materials
- Pencil
- Drawing Paper
- Crayons or Colored Pencils
- Black Marker (optional)

In this lesson, we will begin with a new piece of paper and learn to draw a pterodactyl in 9 instructive steps. It’s best if we observe the shape and size of each of the drawn parts of the pterodactyl.
Time Needed: 30 minutes

Outline The Head
Outline the shape of the pterodactyl’s head similar to the illustration.

Add The Eye
Draw a circle to add the pterodactyl’s eye.

Form The Beak
Form the pointed shape of the pterodactyl’s beak attached to its head as shown. Add a dot to draw its nostril.

Outline The Body
Outline the oval shape of the pterodactyl’s body.

Attach The Legs
Now, draw the pterodactyl’s short legs attached to the end of its body as shown.

Draw The Arm
Next, draw the shape of the pterodactyl’s visible arm. Then, attach its thin fingers as shown.

Form The Wings
Form the pterodactyl’s wing connected to its fingers. Then, draw the shape of the other wing as shown.

Outline The Underbelly
Draw a curved line to form the pterodactyl’s underbelly.

Complete The Pterodactyl Drawing
Let’s add some color to our drawing of a pterodactyl! First, use a yellow crayon to shade the wings. Next, use a black crayon to fill in the pterodactyl’s eye. Now, color the underbelly using a cream colored crayon. Finally, shade the rest of the pterodactyl’s body using an orange crayon.
