This lesson only takes about 30 minutes and has a PDF near the bottom of the lesson you can easily print or download. The pdf lesson even contains a coloring book page with just the line art. This goes well with crayons or colored pencils. It’s wonderful for very young children looking for some extra guidance and are looking to color in a shepherd.

Draw A Shepherd: All Steps

In today’s lesson, we will learn to draw a shepherd on paper. The location and proportion of each part will be considered in each step of the how-to article here. Note that the blue outlines are used to indicate the newest elements being created in each in each of the steps.

Time Needed: 30 minutes

  1. Draw The Head

    Draw A Shepherd: Step 1

    First, draw the curved outline of the shepherd’s head. Next, add small curved lines on the sides of his head to form his ears. Now, draw two circles for the eyes and thin elongated shapes for the eyebrows. Then, draw short curved lines for the nose and mouth.

  2. Add The Hat

    Draw A Shepherd: Step 2

    Start by forming the oval base of the hat. Now, add a curved line to form the top part of the hat.

  3. Form The Torso

    First, draw the triangular shape of the collar. Add a vertical line below the collar. Then, form the shape of the sleeves and body of the shirt similar to the illustration.

  4. Draw The Belt

    Draw a rectangular buckle then form the thin straps of the belt.

  5. Add The Pants

    Form the shape of his pants as shown. Then, add the thin outline of the folded cuffs at the bottom.

  6. Outline The Boots

    Outline the shape of the shepherd’s boots below his pants.

  7. Attach The Arms

    Form his long curving arms attached to the sleeves of his shirt.

  8. Outline The Crook

    Outline the thin, long crook then form the hooked shape on top.

  9. Complete The Shepherd Drawing

    Time to add some color to our shepherd drawing! First, fill in his eyes with a black crayon. Now, color his skin with a peach colored crayon. Next, shade his eyebrows, belt buckle as well as the shepherd’s crook with a yellow crayon. Use a purple crayon for his shirt and a blue crayon for his pants. Then, color his hat, boots and belt strap with a dark brown crayon.
