How To Draw A Dimetrodon: All Steps

In today’s tutorial, we are going to learn how to draw a dimetrodon on paper. The shape and proportion of each part will be highlighted in each step of the how-to article here. Observe that the blue pencil lines are used to show the current shapes being drawn in each step.

Time Needed: 20 minutes

  1. Outline The Head

    Outline the shape of dimetrodon’s head similar to the illustration. Make sure to form the V-shaped opening of its mouth.

  2. Add The Face

    Draw a small circle for its eye. Next, add a dot for its nostril. Then, create zigzag lines inside its mouth to form its sharp teeth.

  3. Outline The Body And Tail

    Outline the elongated shape of the dimetrodon’s body. Then, create the long pointed shape of its tail.

  4. Attach The Legs

    Form the shape of its legs attached to the bottom of its body. Add its sharp claws at the end of each leg. Make sure to erase parts of the body that overlap with the legs.

  5. Add The Spine

    Add the sail-like spine on top of its body by outlining a bumpy curved shape. Then, draw a straight line connecting each pointed tip to the dimetrodon’s body.

    Let’s add some color to our drawing of a dimetrodon! First, shade the spine with an orange crayon. Next, fill the eye with a black crayon. Now, color the teeth with a white crayon. Then, shade the rest of the dimetrodon’s body with a green crayon.
