How to Draw a Hyena

In this tutorial, we will start off with a new piece of paper and learn how to draw a hyena in a series of 9 steps. It is best to notice the proportions of each part of the hyena.

Time Needed: 30 minutes

1. Form The Face

   

   First, draw two shaded circles to form the hyena’s eyes. Next, add a rounded triangular shape to create the nose. Now, draw a circle attached to the base of the nose to form the snout. Finally, form a U-shape facing upwards, attached to the snout to create the hyena’s lower jaw.

2. Outline The Head

   

   Outline the hyena’s head by forming a rounded shape around the face with two pointed shapes on both sides.

3. Attach The Ears

   

   Draw a pointed shape attached to the top part of the hyena’s head to create the ears. Don’t forget to draw a line in the middle of the pointed shape to emphasize the inner ear.

4. Draw The Body

   

   Attach a curvy line from the bottom of the head to draw the body as shown in the illustration.

5. Outline The Mane

   

   Outline the hyena’s mane by attaching a pointy shape on top of the body.

6. Attach The Tail

   

   Create the tail by drawing a pointy shape attached to the end of the hyena’s body.

7. Form The Legs

   

   To form the hyena’s legs, attach four limbs below the body as shown in the illustration. Remember to add a zigzag shape near each leg of the hyena to add detail to the fur.

8. Draw The Underbelly

   

   Draw a curved line from the base of the head all the way to the hyena’s hind leg to form the underbelly.

9. Complete The Hyena Drawing

   

   In order to complete the hyena drawing, let us first use a black crayon to shade the nose. Next, use a dark brown crayon to color the paws, tail, mane, and pattern of the hyena. Then, use a light yellow crayon to fill in the underbelly and inner ears of the hyena. Finally, use a brown crayon to shade the rest of the hyena’s body!
