How to Draw a Platypus
Your Kids can learn how to draw a platypus by following the example drawings in this basic lesson.
These bizarre looking animals exist only in Australia and are classified as mammals. Platypuses are indeed covered in fur.
Today, let’s learn how to draw this amazing animal. I’ll show you the basic body parts of the platypus and if you have time you can fill in a background. As you might imagine by looking at their tail and duck-like bill platypuses spend much of their time swimming in the water.
- Drawing Paper
- Crayons or Colored Pencils

This post will teach you how to draw a platypus. We will pay attention to the shapes of each section and types of outlines drawn making sure that the drawing looks great.
Time Needed: 20 minutes
Form The Bill
First, outline the elongated top of the platypus’ bill. Next, draw the visible part of the bottom bill as shown. Then, create two dots for the nostrils.
Draw The Eye
Draw the eye by creating a shaded circle.
Outline The Body
Outline the body of the platypus by drawing an elongated shape similar to the illustration.
Attach The Tail
Attach the curved shape of the platypus’ tail.
Add The Feet
Form the webbed feet of the platypus attached to the bottom of its body as shown.
Complete The Platypus Drawing
Let’s finish the platypus drawing by adding some color! First, use a dark brown crayon to color the platypus’ bill, feet and tail. Next, shade the underbelly with a light brown crayon. Then, fill in the rest of the platypus’ body with a brown crayon.
