How to Draw a Possum
Eager to discover how to draw a possum? Note: This is a drawing lesson for a Brushtail Possum native to Australia and New Zealand.
Create along with nine rather simple steps. You’ll learn the basics for drawing a possum.
This lesson only takes about 30 minutes and includes a pdf you can easily print or download. The pdf guide even contains a coloring-book-like page with just the line art. This goes perfectly with crayons or colored pencils. It is perfect for very young kids requiring extra guidance and simply who want to shade in a possum with their crayons or markers.
Materials
- Pencil
- Drawing Paper

The goal is to arrive at a finished drawing of a possum by creating one area at a time. It will take 9 steps to complete as we continue to draw each area moving closer to the finished artwork. The finished drawing will be embellished with color resulting in a drawing you will love!

Outline The Head
Outline the shape of the possum’s head by drawing a rounded shape.

Draw The Eyes
Draw the possum’s eyes by making two ovals.

Add The Nose
Add the possum’s nose by drawing a rounded triangle.

Draw The Fur Pattern
Draw the fur pattern on a possum’s face by making a wavy line on each side of its face. Make sure not to overlap the lines with the possum’s eyes and nose.

Attach The Ears
Attach the ears by drawing the pointed oval shape on each side of its head as shown. Next, create a curved line to form the ear fold.

Outline The Body
Outline the possum’s body by drawing a bumpy shape. Extend a curved line to draw the hind leg.

Form The Limbs
Let’s form the possum’s forelimbs by drawing long lines. Attach the feet by making a pointed shape with lines.

Attach The Tail
Attach the curved shape of the tail to the possum’s body. Add a zigzag line to form the tail’s fur pattern.

Complete The Possum Drawing
Let’s complete the possum drawing by first using a pink crayon to color the nose and inner part of the ears. Next, use a black crayon to shade the possum’s eyes and end of the tail. Now, shade the belly and bottom part of the snout with a white crayon. Finally, use a gray crayon to color the rest of the body.
