How to Draw a Potato
Young artists will love learning how to draw a potato in today’s art lesson.
Grab some art supplies and follow along with these basic 6 drawing steps. You will learn the fundamentals for drawing a potato.
This lesson only takes about 20 minutes and includes a pdf you can easily print or download. The pdf packet even contains a coloring-book-like page with just the line art. This pairs perfectly with crayons or markers. This is ideal for very young children in the need of extra guidance and are looking to shade in a potato.

Materials
- Pencil
- Drawing Paper
- Crayons or Colored Pencils
- Black Marker (optional)

In today’s basic drawing lesson, we will learn how to draw a potato on paper. The location and proportion of each part will be observed in each step of the lesson. Observe that the blue lines are used to indicate the current shapes being drawn in each in each of the steps.
Time Needed: 20 minutes

Draw The Basket Top
Start by drawing an oval in the middle of your paper.

Add The Basket Side
Then, add slightly slanted lines that are attached to the oval shape you drew in step one. You should now have what looks like an empty vegetable basket.

Add Details On The Basket
Add vertical and curved horizontal lines to the basket. This makes it look like a woven basket, the type used to hold potatoes.

Draw The Potatoes
Add the first batch of potatoes on the right side. Take notice how the circles in front overlap the circular shapes near the back.

Add More Potatoes
Complete your line drawing by adding the second batch of potatoes on the left side.

Complete Your Drawing
Grab your coloring materials and begin coloring your potatoes in the basket. I have drawn half of these as red potatoes and the other half as brown russet potatoes!
