This step by step lesson will instruct you how to draw a steamboat. We will draw attention to the shapes of each section and types of lines created making sure that the artwork looks convincing.

Draw The Hull
Draw the hull of the steamboat by first making the outline then drawing a horizontal line across the hull.

Draw The Bottom Deck
Draw the bottom deck by first making evenly spaced pairs of vertical lines. Then, draw a wide rectangle on top.

Add The Top Deck
Add the top deck by drawing evenly spaced vertical lines then adding a horizontal rectangle like in the previous step.

Create A Smokestack
Create a smokestack by first forming the vertical rectangular shape as shown. Now, draw the lining on the smokestack by making a curved line. Next, draw the smoke coming out of the smokestack by creating a bumpy rounded shape.

Attach A Maritime Flag
Attach a maritime flag by forming a thin vertical rectangle with a V-shaped line attached on top.

Draw The Paddle Wheel
Draw the paddle wheel by creating a circle within a circle.

Form The Center Of The Paddle Wheel
Form the center of the paddle wheel by drawing pairs of straight lines inside the inner circle as shown.

Draw The Body Of Water
Draw the body of water surrounding the steamboat by creating wavy horizontal lines.

Complete The Steamboat Drawing
Let’s complete the steamboat drawing by first coloring the top part of the hull with a dark purple crayon. Now, use a red crayon to color the bottom of the hull, the paddle wheel and the top part of each deck. Next, use a white crayon to fill in the pillars on the decks. After that, let’s color the smokestack with red and purple crayon. Don’t forget to color the smoke with a gray crayon. Then, color the maritime flag with an orange crayon and the pole with a brown crayon. Finally, use a light blue crayon to shade the sky and a darker blue crayon to fill in the body of water.
