How To Draw A Vulture: All Steps

In today’s basic drawing lesson, we will discover how to draw a vulture on paper. The design and proportion of each part will be highlighted in each step of the tutorial. Observe that the blue lines are used to indicate the newest elements being drawn in each step.

Time Needed: 20 minutes

  1. Draw The Basic Wing Shape

    This should look kind of like an oval like shape on an angle. Make sure to do this lightly because it will just be a guideline for more detail later on.

  2. Start The Body

    Draw a curved line that goes up to form the neck, and a larger curved line for the chest.

  3. Draw The Other Line

    Draw a large curved line for the other wing, this one isn’t in view as much so it appears to be smaller.

  4. Add The Head

    Draw an oval for the basic shape of the head and a pointy beak.

  5. Draw The Legs

    Add some feathers to the legs and draw the large talons.

  6. Add The Tail Feathers

    Add Long feathers for the tail.

    Use the wing shapes as guidelines for the lines of the feathers. Fluff up the neck and chest too.

  8. Finish The Head

    Add the Eye and nose, and some wrinkles on the head.

    Use different shades of brown for the feathers, the feathers on the wings tend to go from a light brown to dark. The head is usually a bright red as well.

Vultures are one of the most common animals found in the Americas. Vultures play a very important role in the ecosystem.

When you see a very large bird circling high in the sky you are probably seeing a vulture. Vultures have enormous wingspans. Turkey Vultures can be identified by their red heads.

A Turkey vulture is a species of bird that belongs to the New World vulture family Cathartidae. They are found in all the continents barring Antarctica. Their diet consists of carrion (dead animals) and their behavior is usually scavenging.
