How to Draw an Ankylosaurus

We will complete a drawing of an ankylosaurus by creating one part at a time. It will take 9 steps in total as we continue to create each part which will get us closer to the finished drawing. The finished drawing will be beautified with color creating a drawing you will want to share with friends!

Time Needed: 30 minutes

1. Form The Head

   

   Form the rounded shape of the ankylosaurus’ head. Create a wavy line to draw its mouth.

2. Add The Face

   

   Draw a circle for the eye. Next, add a dot for its nostril. Then, create a curved line to form its beak.

3. Outline The Body

   

   Outline the big oval shape of the ankylosaurus’ body attached to its head.

4. Attach The Tail

   

   Attach the pointed shape of its tail at the end of the dinosaur’s body. Don’t forget to erase parts of the body that overlap with the tail!

5. Form The Legs

   

   Form the columnar shape of the ankylosaurus’ legs attached to the bottom of its body. Then, add small curved shapes at the end of its toes to draw its claws.

6. Add The Tail Club

   

   Draw its bulbous tail club by forming a rounded shape at the tip of its tail.

7. Outline The Underbelly

   

   Create a line following the shape of the dinosaur’s body to outline its underbelly.

8. Form The Spikes

   

   Form the spikes on the ankylosaurus’ head and along its body by drawing triangular shapes as shown.

9. Complete The Ankylosaurus Drawing

   

   Let’s add some color to our drawing of the ankylosaurus! First, use a yellow crayon to shade its beak, spikes and claws. Next, use a black crayon to fill in the eye. Then, color the underbelly and legs with a green crayon. Now, use a dark brown crayon to fill in the tail club. Finally, shade the rest of the armored dinosaur’s body using a brown crayon.
