How To Draw An Armadillo: All Steps

By the end of this lesson we will complete a drawing of an armadillo by working on one part at a time. This project will take 6 steps in total as we continue to draw each section moving closer to the completed work of art. The final drawing will be finalized with color resulting in a drawing you will love!

Time Needed: 20 minutes

  1. Draw The Head

    How To Draw An Armadillo: Step 1

    First, outline the pointed shape of the armadillo’s head. Next, draw a shaded oval for the eye. Now, form a small curved shape to draw the armadillo’s nose.

  2. Attach The Ears

    Attach the pointed shape of the armadillo’s ears to the top of its head as shown. Next, draw a curved line from the pointed part of the ear to the bottom of the ear.

  3. Form The Carapace

    Form the armadillo’s shell called the carapace by first outlining an oval shape. Next, draw the bands on the carapace by making curved vertical lines.

  4. Add The Legs

    Let’s now add the armadillo’s legs! To draw the leg, create two vertical lines then form the pointy claws attached to the bottom of the leg as shown.

  5. Draw The Tail

    Outline the thin curved shape of the armadillo’s tail. Then, draw lines following the curve of the tail.

  6. Complete The Armadillo Drawing

    Let’s finish our drawing of an armadillo by first coloring the carapace with dark brown and light brown crayons. Next, shade the nose and inner part of the ears with a pink crayon. Then, color the head, tail and legs of the armadillo with a light yellow crayon.
