In this lesson, we are going to discover how to draw an echidna with your drawing materials. We will consider the various sizes and shapes contained in the example drawing of the echidna. The lines in each step is drawn blue so you can plainly see the most recent parts that you will be illustrating.
Time Needed: 20 minutes

Outline The Body
Outline the shape of the echidna’s body as shown. Make sure to emphasize its thin pointy snout!

Draw The Head
First, draw a shaded oval to create the eye. Next, draw two curved lines on its snout.

Form The Spines
Now, outline the round zigzag shape as shown to form the coat of spines on the echidna’s back. Next, draw shorter zigzag lines to create the sharp pointy texture of its back.

Attach The Legs
Form the shape of the echidna’s short legs attached to its body.

Draw The Claws
First, draw the claws on the echidna’s front foot pointing to the right. Then, add the claws on its hind feet pointing to the left as shown.

Complete The Echidna Drawing
Let’s complete the echidna drawing by first coloring the coat of spines with orange and yellow crayons. Next, shade the echidna’s snout and claws with a gray crayon. Then, fill in the rest of the echidna’s body with a dark brown crayon.
