Materials

In this lesson, we are going to learn how to draw an elephant with basic drawing tools. We will consider the different sizes and shapes contained in the example drawing of the elephant. The new lines in each step is drawn blue so you can observe the most recent shapes that you should be illustrating.
Time Needed: 20 minutes

Form The Head
Form the elephant’s head similar to the illustration shown! Draw a shaded oval for the elephant’s eye.

Attach The Trunk
Outline the elephant’s trunk by drawing a curved shape. Add some lines on the trunk to give it texture.

Add The Ear And Tusk
Add the tusks of the elephant by forming a curved shape attached to the face of the elephant. Next, attach ears to the head of the elephant by drawing a big curvy shape.

Draw The Body And Tail
Create the body of the elephant by forming an elongated shape. Draw a narrow shape with a pointed end to attach the tail.

Form The Legs
Draw four legs attached to the body of the elephant as shown. Don’t forget to add lines curving downwards at the bottom to form the toes.

Complete The Elephant Drawing
Let’s fill in the elephant drawing using a white crayon for its tusk and toes. Next, color the tip of the tail with a black crayon. Then, use a pink crayon to fill in the inner ears of the elephant. Finish the illustration off by using a gray crayon to shade the rest of the elephant’s body.
