How to Draw an Island

In this lesson, we will start with a new piece of paper and discover how to draw an island in 9 instructive steps. It is best to observe the proportions of each part of the island.

1. Outline The Stalk

   

   Let’s first outline the stalk of the leaves by drawing curved lines branching out from one common point as shown.

2. Form The Shape Of The Leaves

   

   Next, form the shape of the leaves by making zigzag lines on both sides of each stalk.

3. Draw The Trunks

   

   Draw the trunks of each tree by making two long curved lines.

4. Add Grass

   

   Add grass below the trees by drawing pointy shapes.

5. Add Texture To The Trunk

   

   Add texture to the tree trunk by drawing evenly spaced curved lines.

6. Form The Island

   

   Form the island by drawing a wide semi-circle shape.

7. Draw The Body Of Water

   

   Let’s draw the body of water that surrounds this sandy island by creating wavy lines surrounding the island. Don’t forget to draw a horizontal line for the distant horizon.

8. Add Clouds

   

   Add clouds by creating bumpy rounded shapes.

9. Complete The Island Drawing

   

   Complete the island drawing by first coloring the leaves and grass with a green crayon. Next, shade the trunk with a brown crayon. Then, fill in the sand with a light brown crayon. Now, use a white crayon to color the clouds. Finally, color the water and the sky with different shades of blue.
