How to Draw an Orangutan

Materials
- Pencil
- Drawing Paper
- Crayons or Colored Pencils
- Black Marker (optional)

By the end of this lesson we will complete a drawing of an orangutan by crafting one section at a time. This project will take 9 steps in total as we continue to draw each section which will get us closer to the completed drawing. The completed artwork will be topped off with color resulting in a work of art you will want to share with friends!

Outline The Vine
Outline the vine by creating a narrow curve shape facing upwards. Add some leaves to the vine as shown in the illustration.

Draw The Eyes
Draw two shaded circles to form the orangutan’s eyes. Then, draw a curved line above the eyes to form the forehead.

Attach The Nose And Mouth
Draw two small shaded circles with a curved line above for the orangutan’s nose. Next, form a U-shape facing upwards with a horizontal line attached to it to form the mouth. Finally, draw an oval shape around the mouth and nose.

Form The Beard
Create a pointy shape attached below the mouth and nose of the orangutan to form the beard.

Draw The Hair
Give the orangutan hair by drawing a pointy shape above its face.

Outline The Body
Outline the orangutan’s body by drawing an elongated shape attached below the head.

Form The Limbs
Form the limbs of the orangutan by attaching two arms and two legs as shown in the illustration.

Attach The Hands And Feet
Draw hands and feet by attaching hands to each of the orangutan’s limbs as shown.

Complete The Orangutan Drawing
Let’s complete the orangutan drawing by first using a green crayon to shade the vine and a dark green crayon for the leaves. Next, use a red crayon to fill in the mouth of the orangutan. Then, use a brown crayon to color the face. Hands, and feet of the orangutan. Finally, let’s add some life to the drawing by using an orange crayon to fill in the rest of the orangutan.
