Materials

  • Pencil
  • Drawing Paper

Draw A Pumpkin Face: All Steps

We will arrive at a finished drawing of the pumpkin face by tackling one area at a time. The drawing will take 6 steps to complete as we continue to draw each section moving closer to the completed drawing. The final drawing will be shaded with color creating artwork you will love!

Time Needed: 20 minutes

  1. Draw The Pumpkin

    Draw a huge oval in the middle of your paper.

  2. Add The Stem

    Then, make a vertical rectangular shape above the oval. Add some vertical lines to make this part look like the stem of a pumpkin.

  3. Start The Pumpkin Face

    For the eyes, draw a triangular shape in the upper middle part of the oval. It does not have to be exactly the same. You can be creative! Then, draw a small triangle in between the eyes.

  4. Draw The Mouth

    Add the mouth below the eyes and nose. You can draw in the mouth as well. Have you ever carved a pumpkin like this?

  5. Pumpkin Texture

    To make it appear like a pumpkin, draw curved vertical lines. This will give the pumpkin its characteristic lumps.

    Our pumpkin is almost ready! We just need orange, yellow, and green crayons.

In the 19th and 20th centuries people in Scotland and Ireland carved pumpkin jack-o’-lanterns.

The tradition of carving Jack-o’-lanterns started in Ireland and Scotland in the 19th century when people would carve turnips to ward off evil spirits.

Jack-o’-lanterns became popular in America after Irish immigrants brought this tradition to America.
