Seal or Sea Lion?
Sea lions can be distinguished from seals by their color, size, and the presence of a round patch on their backs.
Sea lions are much bigger than seals and tend to have a more furry coat. They also have a round patch on their back which is often red or yellow-colored. Seals, on the other hand, are smaller than sea lions and have a smooth coat with no red or yellow patches.
Even though they both live in the water, they are not the same. A seal is a type of sea mammal that has no external ears and relies on whiskers to search for food. Sea lions are members of the Otariidae family that lives in coastal areas and have external ears, forelimbs modified as front flippers and hind limbs modified as rear flippers.
The typical diet for most seal species consists mostly of fish. However, some types of seals only eat other marine life like squid and octopuses.
