Materials

In today’s lesson, we will learn how to create a basic running horse drawing on paper. The size of each part will be observed in each step of the tutorial. Note that the blue lines have been drawn to indicate the current elements being drawn in each in each of the steps.
Time Needed: 30 minutes

Form The Head
Draw a line similar to the illustration shown to form the horse’s head.

Create The Snout
First, create a line curving downwards. Then, draw a dot and a short diagonal line to form the horse’s nose and mouth.

Add The Eye
Draw a shaded oval to add the horse’s eye.

Draw The Ear
Form the pointed shape of the horse’s ear attached to the top of its head as shown.

Add The Mane
Form the jagged shape of the running horse’s mane on top of its head similar to the illustration.

Outline The Body
Outline the oval shape of the horse’s body.

Draw The Tail
Draw the long curving shape of the horse’s tail.

Attach The Legs
Next, form the thin shape of the horse’s legs attached to the bottom of its body as shown in the illustration.

Complete The Simple Running Horse Drawing
Let’s now color our simple drawing of a running horse! Use a light brown crayon to shade the snout. Next, use a dark brown crayon to fill in the mane, tail and hooves of the running horse. Now, use a brown crayon to shade the rest of the running horse’s body.
