In today’s tutorial, we will learn how to make a tortoiseshell cat drawing on paper. The shape and proportion of each of the drawn parts will be pointed out in each step of the lesson. Note that the blue lines have been drawn to show the current lines being created in each step.

Draw The Head
Draw the cat’s basic head shape.

Draw The Back And Tail
The back and the tail can be drawn in almost a spiral pattern, with the tail just gaining more shape at the end.

Add The Front Legs
Draw a curved line off the head to create the chest, and add in the two front legs to complete the body.

Detail The Head
First draw the cat’s face. To make the tortoiseshell pattern, you will have to draw general shapes of where you want the color to be separated later on.

Pattern The Body
Tortoiseshell patterns are kind of complex, but they can be simplified into large blobs of color.

Add Color
Tortoiseshell cats are mainly dark brown, sometimes black, with orange areas on their coats.
